It is a difficult subject to talk about, and honestly we don't talk about it that much. When we do, though, we try to be more understanding with each other. For a long time I groaned about things like hair and nail appointments, which didn't seem like necessities to me, at least not to the extent they were to her. But I've come to recognize that, to her, she feels more beautiful and more confident when she is "fixed up", and I do see the value in that. What role do you feel our personalities play in these kinds of issues? I think one reason we don't talk about it that I tend to be a conflict avoider. Thanks for writing this article.

Hi Jeff, if it's not prying I'd like to know more. Do you still talk about this or have you both decided that you are just different? Thanks for your comment.

I'm in a relationship where we're still trying to figure the financial issue out after 10 years. I'd say we "don’t disagree about the values but on how they should be implemented." For instance, if an item we wanted is on sell for 50% off I might buy it, but my wife would buy 2 of them! That's a simplistic example but its a fundamental difference in our approach to finances and "saving money".
